Botox® is an injectable solution that reduces the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines. It is a common treatment method among older adults with facial concerns. There can be a stigma associated with plastic surgery, but aesthetic drugs like Botox are a clinically tested and FDA-approved way to improve facial appearance.

What are some other common misconceptions about Botox?

It Looks Like Work Was Done

Botox injections have a subtle effect on your facial features. Our physicians tailor the dosage to each patient’s individual needs, so the lines around your eyes are diminished or completely erased.

When administered correctly on the right schedule, no one will suspect your youthful glow is the result of Botox treatment!

Treatment Requires Extensive Downtime

Botox is commonly referred to as the “lunchtime procedure” because injections can typically be done in less than an hour. After your appointment, you’ll be back to work! Side effects are mild and will not prevent you from going about normal daily activities.

Botox Is Only For Women

Definitely untrue! There are plenty of men who receive treatment. According to Botox Cosmetic, one in every 10 patients is male. Men who are unhappy with crow’s feet around their eyes or wrinkles between the eyebrows are encouraged to schedule a consultation.

Botox Can Be Used Anywhere On The Face

Botox is approved to reduce the appearance of forehead lines, crow’s feet and frown lines between the eyebrows. The drug is not typically injected into the lips or around the mouth, as these areas have not been clinically tested or approved by the FDA.

Treatment Is One And Done

While some injectables on the market today only require one injection, Botox should be an ongoing treatment. Results are not permanent, which is why patients will be advised to return in 3 to 6 months, depending on their individual needs.

Injections Are Painful

Botox injections cause little to no discomfort. A very fine needle is used at the injection site, so patients may experience a mild sensation at most. Botox is designed to be virtually painless, so you can look and feel great after treatment.

Botox Can Treat All Wrinkles

Wrinkles caused by facial movements – squinting, laughing, etc. – can be treated with Botox. The injectable relaxes the facial muscles, so new wrinkles do not form. Wrinkles that are not the result of facial movement, such as sun exposure and natural aging, will not respond.

The Face Will Become “Frozen”

Someone who appears expressionless after Botox treatment has received too large of a dosage. Our physicians are extensively trained to develop the right treatment plan and administer these injections correctly, so patients do not look unnatural or “frozen”.
