First and foremost, you may be wondering what exactly Botox® treatment is. Botox Cosmetic is an injectable treatment for facial wrinkles, including moderate to severe frown lines, forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet. It is the number one selling injectable of its kind for visibly smooth facial lines in patients young and old.

Although you may have heard of Botox as a treatment option for wrinkles, there are a few important questions to ask before you consider receiving injections.

We list five commonly asked questions about Botox® Cosmetic.

How Does Botox Treatment Work?

When injected at the site, Botox Cosmetic temporarily slows the activity of the targeted muscles to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Whether around the eyes or forehead, treatment will gradually decrease the look of crow’s feet and other wrinkles. The injections are relatively pain-free; most patients report that treatment feels like a little pinch.

How Many Injections Do I Need?

In one session, which only lasts about 10 minutes, you could receive three to five injections in the affected area. A round of injections typically lasts up to four months; you should begin to see results in 24 to 48 hours, but it may take up to 7 days to see full results. The number of necessary sessions over time will vary from patient to patient. When you come to our office, our clinicians will take the time to discuss a plan for your specific desires.

Are Botox Injections Noticeable?

If you’ve heard stories about botched Botox treatment, know that they’re only stories! When you receive injections from a licensed expert in the aesthetics field, you can trust that your treatment will be professional and accurate. Our clinicians are trained and have years of experience working with injectables like Botox®.

Is Botox Safe for Me?

If you think a current or past medical condition might prevent you from using Botox®, it is important to share that information with your health care provider prior to treatment. Do not use Botox if you have an infection at the injection site, have a muscle or nerve condition, or think you may be pregnant.

What Are the Common Side Effects?

Possible side effects include slight discomfort or mild bruising at the injection site, blurred vision and dry mouth or eyes. If you have difficulty swallowing, speaking or taking a breath, get medical attention right away. More serious side effects have a low chance of affecting the average patient, but eyelid drooping or swelling did happen to a handful of patients in clinical studies.
